While appaloosa is not as common of a color for bucking horses as solid bay, chestnut, black, gray, or even a loud pinto, the Bucking Horse Breeders Association and other bucking horse registries allow all colors. Bucking horses are a mixture of many breeds but often show a heavier draft-like influence in solid legs with large hooves and a larger head. Through the generations, bucking horses have been bred to be extremely athletic while still being hardy. The lighter breeds mixed in such as quarter horse, paint, mustang, appaloosa, etc. allow for agility while the draft influences create a very durable horse who can withstand the work that events like saddle, bareback, and ranch bronc require.
